The large high performance receiver was never that popular in the UK and the Sansui 5000A was just such a beast. Successor to the 5000, it appeared in 1969 and featured an FM front end employing three MOSFET transistors and a slightly revised stereo decoder. It could be supplied with a simple painted metal 'bonnet' for console mounting, or with a full wooden sleeve for free-standing use, as here. The amp was specified at 75W into 4ohm and offered switching for three pairs of loudspeakers, two tape loops, direct connection of the tape head of an open-reel transport, an MM phono stage and a fully featured tuner with totally segregated AM and FM sections.
