Well, what did you expect? SPLHCB is, by any measure, the pivotal album in the history of popular music and it still dazzles [HFN Jul '17]. The 50th anniversary remastering has delivered the most remarkable release of the year, if not the decade, and on every sonic level. I was overwhelmed by the choice of five LP or CD sets but opted for this because, though you'll only play it once, the bonus LP of outtakes sounds amazing. As for the main LP, this should now stand as the definitive version, except among purists who'll only recognise the original UK mono as 'true'. If this doesn't win the Grammy for best reissue, then there's no justice. Giles Martin's remastering from thoriginal tapes? It gets better all the time. KK
