Piledriver was released on the Vertigo label in a gatefold sleeve in December 1972 [6360082]. Like the music, the sleeve artwork was a no-nonsense affair with Rossi, Parfitt and Lancaster in hair-down mode on the front and a garishly painted cartoon of a King Kong-like gorilla malevolently brandishing a bomb on the rear. Some UK pressings came with the older Vertigo black and white optical (op-art) 'swirl' label, while later 1972 pressings arrived with the new blue and green spaceship labels, both of which were designed by Roger Dean.
