Call me a turntable fanatic, a vinyl junkie, even, but few things excite quite like figures showing an uptick in the sale of LPs. According to numbers from the BPI, over 4 million chart-eligible LPs were sold in 2018 in the UK alone - up from 3.2 million in 2016 - and it looks like this figure could top 4.5 million in 2019. However, perhaps a more remarkable figure comes from the RIAA in America. According to its 2019 mid-year report, vinyl revenue grew by 12.9% in the first half of this year with LPs accounting for $224.1 million worth of sales. This is thanks to 8.6 million records being sold.
