Making your own source material at home is easy, and has been for decades. Fans of reel-to-reel tape or cassettes will be well practised at this, while the arrival of digital made the process easier still. You can burn your own CDs, or record MiniDiscs and make DAT or DCC compilations if that's still your passion, or move digital audio files around different computers, hard drives and portable players. Heck, if you're really crazy you can even transcribe analogue sources to digital, even if I have heard this described as like 'trying to reassemble a cow from mince'.
