Amid a backdrop of high unemployment, rising living costs and housing shortages, the number of multi-generational households - where three or more generations of the same family live together - is growing. A recent report shows almost 36 million people in Britain now have experience of living as adults in the same home as another generation of their family. When it comes to the home interior, the result of this change in living arrangements is an increased emphasis on practicality. With many homeowners occupying the role of carer for both their children and their elderly parents, functionality must come to the forefront in order to ensure comfort, safety and protection for everyone in the family.
