摘要

OFTEC is renewing its calls for the government to take a more pragmatic approach to cutting carbon emissions from heating, following concerns that the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will fail to attract enough support to make a significant impression on CO_2 reduction targets. Latest figures from OFGEM show that since the RHI was launched in April, 7,418 renewable heating systems have been accredited under the scheme. Targets set out in the Department of Energy & Climate Change's (DECC) initial impact assessment state that RHI will support around 750,000 renewable heat installations by 2020 -approximately 10,800 new accreditations per month -which OFTEC asserts seems unrealistic with the current rate of take up. According to OFTEC, an all-inclusive boiler scrappage scheme, which would appeal to a wider audience, would go much further than the RHI in helping the government achieve its goal of 80% less carbon emissions by 2050.
