The drive to make UK homes more environmentally friendly is firmly on the agenda, as we are bombarded with information about how to take greater control of energy usage through improved control systems, to reduce energy bills with more efficient appliances and to better insulate our property. According to the latest Energy Saving Trust consumer attitudes poll, 73% of people say they are worried about the cost of energy bills and many would choose to install energy saving upgrades to reduce expenditure. In addition to this, many homeowners also have concerns about the impact their energy consumption is having on the environment. In particular, for the two million homeowners in the UK that are off the mains gas grid, there is often the assumption that fuel choices are limited, which must mean that compromises have to be made on efficiency and convenience.
