Health surveillance failures led to machine shop mist exposure

Martin-Baker Aircraft Company, which manufactures ejector seats and other safety-related aviation equipment, has been fined £800,000 after it failed to protect between 60 and 70 employees from exposure to metalworking fluid (MWF) mist in its machine shop. The case is of particular interest because: 1. it resulted in one of the highest fines imposed in a UK court for occupational health offences.
