Health Information Ambassador Program for Patient Education: A Best Practice for Bringing the Consumer Health Library to the Patient

The Health Information Ambassador Program is a partnership of the Consumer Health Librarian and the Volunteer Department. The volunteers are trained specifically for this role in rounding on patient floors in the hospital and in working with the librarian in the delivery of the information. The goals of the program include empowering the patients in their health care, increasing their sense of value and collaboration with the health care team and continuing the relationship with the patient beyond discharge and throughout the continuum of care. The qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate the benefits of providing accurate health information to the bedside.
