Emergency response, safety and health professionals are naturally concerned with the quality of their protective gear as they routinely face hazardous situations such as toxic spills. But not everyone understands what type of personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used, and how to screen for quality PPE. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee on Hazardous Materials Protective Clothing and Equipment develops standards for certification, design and testing criteria for emergency chemical protective ensembles and clothing.
