Sweden Conquers Canada in the Environmental Arena

It's evening in Stockholm and a group of Canadians who have come to Sweden to learn about community energy planning meets for dinner. Painted over the archway into the restaurant—a foreshadowing of the days to come—is Julius Caesar's famous phrase: Veni, vidi, via. The Canadians came. They saw. But the Swedes have conquered. On the energy planning front, that is. Since 1995, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) has organized a Community Energy Mission to Europe as part of its mandate to share best practices in energy planning with Canada's municipal leaders. Delegates on this year's trip to Sweden included mayors, city councillors, and municipal staff.
