It may sound like an uphill battle, but somehow the management of United Transport Tankcontaincr (UTT) pulled it off. After 14 months of arduous negotiations, a team of managers led by the irrepressible duo of Koert van Wissen and Roel Molcnaar, the group's director and finance director, respectively, succeeded in buying out the business from its former parent United Transport International at a cost of EUDl00m. Now the group is looking to the future and setting its sights on expanding the business in China and Eastern Europe. "We are delighted that the buyout has gone through," says van Wissen. "Now we are looking at the organic growth of the business, and that means geographic expansion." A key portion of UTT's existing sales apparatus is based in China, and van Wissen says that side of the company's operation will see immediate new investment as a result of the successful buyout. "We have a complete network of offices throughout China, and we think it is a good idea to set up some support offices to assist the representatives there; we think this is highly important."
