The UN Sub-committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods held its 27th session in Geneva this past July 4 to 8. Experts from 24 states attended, along with observers from five other countries and representatives from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), International Maritime Organisation (IMO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the European Commission (EC), the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF) and 20 non-governmental organisations. For this first meeting of the Subcommittee in the 2005/06 regulatory biennium, Sergio Benassai (Italy) took the chair and Linda Hume-Sastre (Canada) sat for the first time as vice-chairman. This biennium will be the last under Benassai's chairmanship. Being me first session of the new biennium, the Sub-committee spent much of the meeting hearing the results of the deliberations of working groups, which will set at least part of the agenda for the two years.
