Maintaining integrity in hoses

The Energy Institute (El) has published new guidelines on the management of flexible hose assemblies. The guidelines are designed for use by refineries, oil terminals and depots, drilling facilities and offshore installations where flexible hoses are used for product transfer. They aim to provide a system of controls and procedures to ensure continued integrity of assemblies throughout their working life. "Loss of integrity can result in the release of hazardous substances, which in turn can compromise safety," El says. "On many installations, especially offshore, integrity failure leading to a hydrocarbon release can also lead to production shutdown with attendant commercial impact of revenue losses."
