Turkey became a party to the European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) on March 22, 2010. However, the process by which it achieved accession started in 2004. Turkey was the 45th signatory to ADR; since then two further states have acceded: Serbia and Iceland. The 47 signatory states include all 27 members of the European Union, for which ADR must also be applied to domestic transport, and most other European countries, including Switzerland, Norway, the former Yugoslav states, the Russian Federation and some of the former Soviet states - Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Moldova. It also has some signatories outside of Europe - notably Morocco and Tunisia - and is being increasingly used as a model for domestic transport regulations in Latin America, south-east Asia and elsewhere.
