Ammonia in gas cylinders

WorkSafe Victoria has issued a safety alert on the storage of ammonia in gas cylinders. The alert comes after a recent incident in Australia in which the wrong type of cylinder was used, resulting in an explosion. Fortunately there were no injuries from the blast, although there was damage to the workplace and the emergency services attended. The alert states that the storage of ammonia in R22 refrigerant gas cylinders can lead to an overpressure in the cylinder and consequent explosion.
