US companies involved in domestic ocean shipping and inland waterway transport were kept very busy in the latter part of 2010. Notable new contracts were signed, companies planned to add vessels to fleets, and operators were racking up performance awards. Set against increasing optimism about the direction in which the global economy is moving, industry players seem well positioned as 2011 unfolds. One company seeing its commitment to the energy industry pay off is shipping and logistics company Crowley Maritime. Its Alaska fuel sales and distribution operation has reached an agreement with Shell Oil to add eight Shell-branded service stations, located in the cities of Anchorage and Eagle River, to Crowley's wholesale network.
