This year's survey of the global chemical tanker fleet comprises 149 owners and operators, and our findings suggest that a significant proportion of them are trimming down their fleets. Forty-six companies - 31 per cent of those surveyed - have reduced their net fleet size by at least one vessel over the past year. In contrast, only 18 companies (12 per cent) have increased their net fleet size by at least one vessel over the same period. The total fleet stands at 1,955 vessels The current orderbook amounts to 1.52m dwt, equivalent to 3.4 per cent of the total fleet of 44.66m dwt. HCB estimates that 398,600 dwt remains to be delivered this year and that 424,000 dwt and 304,000 dwt will join the global fleet in the first and second halves of 2014 respectively; and a further 100,000 dwt will be added in both the first and second halves of 2015 - provided everything remains on schedule.
