California-headquartered Barrier Plastics has announced the launch of the Baritainer composite intermediate bulk container (IBC), which it describes as "the only UN-rated monolayer-barrier IBC" in the US. "A full year of research and development went into the release of the IBC, which is made with HDPE and Quoral barrier resin," the company says. "The IBC serves as an alternative to fluorinated and multilayer IBCs for the packaging and shipping of chemicals requiring barrier protection." "At 40" wide, 48" long, and 46" high [1,016 mm × 1,219 mm × 1,168 mm], the Barrier IBC has a capacity of 275 gallons [1,041 litres], a tare weight of 144 lbs [65.3 kg] and a gross weight of 3,805 lbs. It features a 6" fill opening and 2" discharge opening and it comes in a zinc-galvanised square tubular steel grid cage with a galvanised stamped sheet metal pallet. A variety of gasket options are available and the valve is tamper evident," it continues, revealing that larger capacity units "are currently in product development".
