New ideas on containment

Xiamen Shipyard in China has undertaken a full-scale test of the new LNT A-Box containment system developed by Norway-based LNG New Technologies AS (LNT). The LNG A-Box is the first ever IMO Type A containment system, which has received approval in principle from DNV GL. The design consists of an independent tank housed in an insulated hold space, which the developers say offers a robust, safe and cost-effective alternative to existing designs for LNG tankers, floating LNG units and medium-to-large LNG/ethylene carriers.
