DATA FACILITATOR

The retailer, as the agent that facilitates movement of a product from the manufacturing plant to the marketplace, must consider the regulatory impact of items for sale on its shelves. Each year a retailer can add hundreds or thousands of new suppliers. Each supplier typically provides a standard set of product-related data in order to begin the item setup/ on-boarding process. Products that contain chemicals have regulatory implications and, as such, require additional regulatory and compliance-related data. Traditionally, a safety data sheet (SDS) would be the key document referenced by the retailer for regulatory data. It is clear, however, that a gap exists between what retailers require and what suppliers have the expertise to provide. The varied quality, completeness, format types and interpretations of supplier SDSs can present challenges in key business situations.
