In the middle of May we were honoured to visit the Tavoli Marina Hotel in Villamoura, Portugal, for the BHF National Conference and what a venue it was! The only setback was that early morning travel to the airport and what seems like 20 hours of travel until the first drink at the welcome meeting, but we soon got over that when our host dressed us up in a red sash and made us look like carnival queens, queens being the operative word, but it turned out to be a little game he'd devised for the delegates to get to know each other, and it worked. I saw my old editor for the first time in a while and he greeted me by getting hold of my collar and threatening me with physical violence but I still insisted on writing this column. Some of the speakers were inspiring, some boring, but all entertaining. In all, very thought-provoking and I recommend a visit to next year's conference, and if the idea of booking your own flight this year put you off then I think next year's location will suit you - London. I hope you will consider it, because the more delegates that go the better it will be.
