The Chancellor is preparing to unveil a ￡4bn package of support which will increase the funding made available to SMEs through high street banks. The funding will come from the European Investment Bank, and it's hoped that it will provide credit to firms who have experienced borrowing difficulties due to the credit crunch. The government's bail-out of three major banks was conditional on them restoring funding availability to SMEs to 2007 levels.
