摘要

History has shown recently again, that getting troops to the fight is a complex and difficult mission to achieve, requiring extraordinary logistics support. Preparations for the recent Gulf-War in spring 2003 showed, that it took some time to transport effective troops to the places of future fights. But the ongoing efficient and effective sustainment of these troops once they are in the theatre requires significant military resources both in terms of personnel and equipment. For each fighter in the force today there is typically a combat service support soldier making sure he's got the beans, bullets, water and fuel needed to carry on the fight. The combat soldier's daily demand is extremely high, requiring a sustainment capability that can ensure continued access and replenishment. High speed vessels (HSVs), like the ones US military forces are currently testing for such mission needs, will delivery a much broader package of dominant manoeuvre. They will allow the transportation of combat units as a complete package, and the ability to insert them without the need for a large combat service support soldier package to assist on the shore executing reception, staging, onward movement and sustainment.
