Sea transport in cargo transport units

Sea transport of cargo in cargo transport units (CTU) is regulated by SOLAS chapter Ⅵ, IMDG Code chapter 7. 3 and the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC). Additional technical guidance is provided in the CTU packing guidelines. SOLAS chapter Ⅵ will be amended to require the mandatory verification of container gross masses by the shipper, expected to come into force 1 July 2016. The CTU packing guidelines will be replaced by a CTU Code, providing very detailed technical information for cargo securing in CTU. The publication of the CTU Code is expected at the end of 2014.
