Large container vessels are still calling at the port of Hamburg but increasing ship sizes and the postponed deepening of the Elbe river are not a good omen. An« Integrated Terminal Ship System« (ITSS) in the deepwaterport of Wilhelmshaven and a cooperation of the JadeWeserPort with the port of Hamburg could be a solution to prevent the big ones to turn their backs on Germany. The ITTS would provide silmultaneous handling of mega liners and feeder vessels, increase productivity and let Hamburg maintain a hub function.
