The 46 m and more than 50 year-old »Vega« became a historic footnote, parked in the picturesque harbour of Penzance in Cornwall until Bremen-based yacht developer Dör-ries Yachts was commissioned in 2020 to convert the old supply ship into an Explorer yacht. This also meant a conversion of the engine, as the aging diesel-guzzler had long since ceased to meet current emissions guidelines. The conversion to the IMO Ⅲ standard was carried out by Zeppelin Power Systems, official partner for Cat and MaK engines. The Zeppelin worked with specialist departments and partners to develop an individual solution for the engine and SCR system. The MaK 8 M 20 was disassembled, tested, cleaned, evaluated, and given a downstream exhaust system. In addition the measuring points were extended to provide data for more efficient operations as required.
