Stars & Stripes Picnic Blanket

I was in a deep well of weavers block when I read the description for the Handwoven celebrations challenge. A few nights later, I was wide awake in the middle of the night thinking through this project! My mind went not to formal table linens or fancy outfits, but to the handwoven picnic blankets that my family uses all summer long. Most years on the 4th of July, my friends and I float the Okanogan River in truck tires and kayaks, then scramble out at a friend's house to barbecue, listen to country music, and wax philosophical about politics. It's always been one of my favorite holidays. This year, I'm excited to sit on my Stars & Stripes blanket with my son as the evening falls and we watch the fireworks at the park.
