Ihacres (Identification of unit Hydrographs And Component flows from Rainfall, Evaporation and Stream-flow data) was developed as a hybrid conceptual model, using the simplicity of a parametric model to reduce the parameter uncertainty inherent in hydrological models. At the same time it attempts to represent more detail of the internal processes than is typical of a parametric model (Croke et al. 2005b). The original IHACRES model, first described by Jakeman et al. (1990), is a parsimonious rainfall-runoff model that is simple, parametrically efficient, and has few data requirements. It is unlike more familiar physically based hydrological models already in use that are data demanding, require the estimation of parameters controlling the flow of soil water and ground-water to the stream channel, and are difficult to calibrate (Dye and Croke 2003). The PC-WINDOWS version 1 developed by Littlewood et al. (1997) has been extensively used in surface water hydrology applications and is now referred to as IHACRES Classic.
