Patriot executive bonuses approved by bankruptcy court

Patriot Coal Corp.'s proposal to pay top executives and middle managers more than $6 million in bonuses was approved yesterday by a federal bankruptcy court judge who overruled challenges from miners and retirees at risk of losing benefits in the company's upcoming sale. The plan offers up to $2.88 million to 46 middle managers considered critical to Patriot's Chapter 11 case and up to $3.75 million for Patriot's top five executives, including Chief Executive Robert Bennett.
