Wildlife refuge staffers, volunteer win top honors

Three national wildlife refuge lovers are being honored tomorrow for their labors. One manages a sprawling refuge in Alaska. Another is a refuge planner in Southern California. A third volunteers, devoutly, at a refuge in New York state. Together, they are the winners of this year's top awards from the National Wildlife Refuge Association. "The passionate men and women that work and volunteer within the National Wildlife Refuge System are the backbone of this unique system of wild places," said National Wildlife Refuge System Chief Cynthia Martinez, adding that she is "very grateful to the [association] for honoring those special individuals who exemplify this outstanding public service."
