Oil giant BP PLC will cut roughly 10,000 people from its workforce in response to reduced demand and the globalproduction glut, accelerating the firm's transition to a "lower carbon" company."We have to spend less money," CEO Bernard Looney said in a letter to employees today following a webcast onthe topic.The cost cutting, Looney said, was part and parcel to the company's existing strategy toward becoming a leanerfirm.The external dynamics of an oil price bust in 2020 only served to accelerate that path, "and perhaps go deeper atthis stage than we originally intended," he said.
