California regulators, taking a harder line than their counterparts at EPA, are bluntly warning wood stove retailersagainst continuing to sell models that don't meet stricter federal emissions standards.As of May 16, the sale of such dirtier-burning "Step 1" models is illegal, California Attorney General XavierBecerra's office said in letters sent yesterday to almost 20 big box and home improvement stores as well asinternet retailers.Becerra, a Democrat, was writing on behalf of the California Air Resources Board.
