The Trump administration today moved forward on a wind project on public lands in New Mexico as it continuesadvancing major renewable energy projects for approval by the end of the year.The Bureau of Land Management today released a final environmental impact statement (EIS) for theBorderlands Wind Project in Catron County, N.M., just east of the Arizona border, covering about 16,400 acres ofBLM land and another 10,000 acres of state and private lands.The project proponent - Borderlands Wind LLC, a subsidiary of Juno Beach, Fla.-based NextEra Energy Inc. -has a deal with Tucson Electric Power to supply the utility up to 100 megawatts of electricity, or enough to powerabout 30,000 homes. The project will help Tucson Electric meet a state renewable energy standard that requiresutilities to generate at least 15% of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2025.
