When colleagues in New Orleans asked for his help solving a shortage of health equipment, a Louisianaprofessor fashioned some inventive protective gear.Wayne Newhauser of Louisiana State University linked up with a few teammates to make gowns, face shields andventilator parts in his garage. Their materials included elastic from Mardi Gras masks and used billboards — like asandwich sign that became what they jokingly called the "brisket gown."
