Ireland will soon publish the details of 200 carbon-cutting measures slated to help the country reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The measures, set for release this afternoon, incorporate plans that would cut business, farm, residential and government emissions, according to leaked drafts of the report. Ireland anticipates it will increase the carbon tax from €20 to €80 per ton by 2030 in an aim to offset the country's record of emitting more carbon than most countries in the European Union. The measures will also limit petrol and diesel vehicle use, and target residential areas and businesses through a multibillion-dollar plan to retrofit houses to improve energy efficiency. Other efforts, including prohibiting oil and gas boilers from new homes by 2025, will also contribute.
