Accreditation, Now a Reality, Boosts Print's Academic Rank

Print media is often taken for granted in society, and the same was the case on our campus," says Prof. Patrick Klarecki, chair of Ferris State University's Dept. of Printing and Technology Management in Michigan. Establishing accreditation standards for bachelor's degree programs in graphic communication had been discussed for years. Then 20 years ago, a GATF ad hoc committee was formed as an ciplines. Its mission: to provide accreditation standards to strengthen and maintain quality of instruction, to stimulate the exchange of ideas between academia and industry, and to provide recognition to those programs that achieve and maintain acceptable standards in preparing students to enter the graphic communication profession. The accreditation team looks at 14 facets of the academic unit.
