PNTAB Briefed on eLoran

The U.S. National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Advisory Board (PNTAB), which provides independent advice to the National Executive Committee on Space-Based PNT, met in late October. It heard from David Last, professor at the University of Wales, on the subject of eLoran. As recently as 2010, the U.S. government upgraded a majority of its Loran sites, some extant for 75 years, to eLoran status - only to have the current administration shut down the system. Now the U.S. is seeking a backup and major terrestrial augmentation to GPS and is once again considering eLoran.
