Ontario legislation moves forward

The top-to-toe shake-up of Ontario's water sector since the Walkerton disaster five years ago is moving forward on several fronts. The province's environment minister tabled a new Clean Water Act in the legislature on December 5. Early in the New Year, the government is expected to respond to far-reaching recommendations made last July by a panel of experts on water sector reforms. Meanwhile, a white paper on water quality management, also released earlier this year, is wending its way through public consultation.
