'Green' alternative in portable chargers

The ever-growing popularity of portable electronics is spurring Taiwan makers to step up development of energy-saving, efficient and environment-friendly chargers that double as backup power. The need for such devices is rising as conventional batteries become increasingly inadequate for power-hungry devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs, netbooks and e-book readers.
