Makers of diodes in Taiwan are expanding reach in the vehicle and LED illumination applications because of intense competition in the computer, communications and consumer electronics or 3C segments. To break into the automotive market's high entry barrier, suppliers develop rectifier types that support elevated current from 25A and temperature of 215 C and above. The variants must also withstand 600kg force-fit embedding, in contrast to 3C diodes that are solder-mounted. The latter models work in 1 to 15A current.
