This small vanity press book, documenting the advocacy efforts of two feisty women, has been capturing the attention of policy makers and advocates of sexual and reproductive health since it was first published in 2005. The book chronicles one of the most imaginative fundraising and organising efforts in a field that many would say has become tired and predictable. The book, Thirty-four million friends of the women of the world, describes the personal journey and political education of Jane Roberts, the author, and Lois Abraham. The pair independently took umbrage at the Bush administration's decision to deny family planning funds to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and joined to do something about it.
