Traditional, complementary and alternative medicine: Policy and public health perspectives

The term complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) includes, but is not limited to, indigenous health care practices that are, in much of the world, both the first and the last resort for health care. Bodeker and Burford, the book's editors, use the term traditional complementary and alternative medicine (TCAM) to refer to indigenous medical practices both in their region or community of origin and outside it, because these practices have become objects of interest to national and international agencies, organisations and corporate enterprises.
