European Wholesale Market Share 2015–16: The Big Picture

Ovum's annual analysis of the European wholesale market, based on the reported results of 33 leading wholesalers, shows that in 2016 wholesale revenues totaled €41.0bn ($45.4bn). Revenues from wholesale voice services continued to decline in the face of intense competition from traditional and OTT players, impacting virtually all the major wholesalers. Had it not been for the fall of the British pound against the euro, this would have been the second year in which the increase in revenues from non-voice services more than compensated for the fall in voice services revenue. Although a wide variety of players offer wholesale services in Europe, our analysis shows that the same five national incumbents continue to dominate the market.
