WORLD ENERGY USE TO GROW BY 44 PERCENT BY 2030, EIA FINDS

World energy consumption is expected to grow 44 percent from 2006 levels by 2030, with the bulk of the increase coming primarily from China and other developing nations, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's International Energy Outlook 2009, released last week. Despite a fairly significant projected increase in energy demand, however, the only two resources expected to actually grow under the EIA's business-as-usual scenario would be coal and renewables, climbing 1 and 3 percent, respectively, by 2030.
