NEW MINN. BILL WOULD EASE BAN ON COAL-FIRED POWER PLANTS

Minnesota lawmakers last week began consideration of legislation that would exempt coal-fired power plants with some form of carbon capture from a current ban on all new sources of coal-fired electricity generation. The bill received its first read-through May 16 in the state legislature and has been referred to respective energy committees in both houses. The legislation, sponsored by a bipartisan group of lawmakers in both Minnesota's House and Senate including Senate President James Metzen (D) and Minority Leader David Senjem (R), looks as though it will likelyrnenjoy wide support.
