Greater collaboration between government and industry is needed to meet a G-8 goal for the widespread deployment of carbon capture and sequestration by 2020, according to a report released last week by the International Energy Agency and the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum. "Critical to the deployment of CCS is the experience to be gained from the operation of large-scale demonstration projects. While much progress has been achieved, the recommendation made by the G8 Leaders at the 2008 Hokkaido Toyako Summit that 20 large-scale CCS demonstration projects should be launched by 2010 remains a challenge and will require that governments and industry work in concert," says the report, compiled with the help of the Global CCS Institute.
