A series of lower-magnitude earthquakes in the Midwest stemming from the disposal of wastewater from shale gas fracking has drawn national media attention, causing some in the carbon capture and storage industry to fear that a similar spotlight could fall on CO_2 storage as a process that could also lead to injection-induced seismicity. A series of microseismic events in places like Ohio, Arkansas and Texas over the last year, most notably a Dec. 31 magnitude 4.0 earthquake near Youngstown, Ohio, have led to significant public attention.
