"Electronic Data Processing" was coined in the early fifties and refers to the very first electronic calculators. Even nowadays it is used as a synonym for all activities in the field of computer aided information handling. However, the variety of data processing techniques has been developing during the last thirty years. Currently, the area of media and communication networks are becoming more and more important. With regard to the rising demand for complex and manyfold information, concepts and techniques of information processing have been changing, too. So, digital video, computer aided video analysis, pattern recognition, and in particular unconventional paradigms of modelling span a wide range of potentiality and challenges, which are of special interest for sport medicine and sport sciences.
